New Addition
I've just added a new scholarly paper on this site from Katie Laux, a history student at SIU-Carbondale. The article, Anti-War Protests at Southern Illinois University, compares the history of the protests in Carbondale with the Free Speech Movement at University of California at Berkeley.
While I don't agree with the political tone, I did find the paper fascinating. I had always heard about the protests and had even seen the video saved from the early days of WSIU-TV that showed the protests.
The most interesting thing I discovered is that while I disagree with the motives and issues made by the SIU protesters, I found actually found myself in agreement with the leaders of the Free Speech Movement at least in the opposition to UC-Berkeley's flagrant disregard for the First Amendment.
