The Mystery of the Old Slave House skull
Skull once on display at Old Slave House
FOR SALE — This
skull sold on eBay

HARRISBURG, Ill. (Aug. 1, 2004) — Weird questions about the Old Slave House I’m used to by now, but I was taken back when Janie Jackson of Eldorado asked me about the Old Slave House skull at an OPEN IT NOW! meeting.

She had been surfing eBay and had come across a skull being offered for sale. The sales pitch said it had belonged to a female slave at the Old Slave House. She thought it looked familiar and pulled out a picture she had taken of it at the house in the mid-90s.

I checked with George Sisk, the former owner, and he said he had sold it along with some other medical tools back in 1996 before he closed.

The skull itself was given to his grandfather in 1910. It had been found near the saltworks, though whether it belonged to a slave is unknown.
